Bernardo "Barney" Chávez Sr., age 76, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM.
Barney was born November 2, 1929 to Eduardo and Carlota (Trujeque) Chávez Sr. in San Marcial, NM.
Barney was a resident of Socorro, NM and retired from the Socorro Electric Coop after 43 years of service.
Barney was preceded in death by his wife, Diosinita "Josie" Jojola Chávez in 1998.
Barney is survived by his sons, Elvires Chávez, Bernardo "Bernie" Chávez Jr. and his fiancée, Theresa Aragón, Raymond Chávez and his wife, Isabel, Victor Chávez, all of Socorro and Eduardo Chávez and his wife, Carolyn of San Antonio, NM, daughters, Mary C. Pargas and her husband, Ernest, Bernice R. Vallejos and her fiancé, Elliott Iker and Denise D. Herrera and her husband, Flavio, all of Socorro, brothers, Mike Chávez and his wife, Agatha and Eduardo Chávez Jr. and his wife, Gloria of Las Vegas, NV, sisters, Teodorita Pino and her husband, Elfego of Socorro and Erlinda Dyce and her husband, Charles of Alamogordo, NM, a very special sister-in-law, Vivian Bourguignon of Corrales, NM, 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2006 from 12:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Steadman-Hall Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 13, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church with Father John C. Daniel as Celebrant. Burial will be in the San Antonio, NM Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ernest Pargas Jr., Phillip Chávez, Ryan Chávez, Raymond Chávez Jr., Frankie Montoya and Brandon Vallejos. Honorary Pallbearers are the rest of his grandchildren.
