Miss Marie Wheatley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wheatley at the Wheatley ranch, was married to Mr. Frank Daywalt of Aspen, by the Rev. Father Pitival.

In October 1954 Frank Daywalt and his mother, Marie, visited several days with Tossie Smulling and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bascom. Marie is the daughter of John Wheatley who homesteaded near Snowmass in 1882. The Wheatley family crossed Independence Pass by stagecoach and lived in Aspen and on the Snowmass ranch until 1930. Marie's father donated the land for the first school near Snowmass and helped organized the first school district.
After Frank Daywalt, Sr., was killed in a mine accident in 1921 while leasing, Mrs. Daywalt and her three sons and two daughters moved to California. The two daughters are Mrs. Margery Hatch and Mrs. Catherine Carson. Son, Jack later lived in Glendale. Frank, Jr. was with the IRS in Los Angeles. Her other other, Dr. W. E. Daywalt was a teacher in Los Angeles.

Services were conducted at St. Mary's Church in Aspen Wednesday for Mrs. Marie Wheatley Daywalt who died Aug. 17 in Glendale, Calif.
Born in England, Mrs. Daywalt came to Aspen with her parents in 1885. She passed away at the age of 77 from a stroke in the home of her son, John A. Daywalt.
She is survived by three sons, two daughters, 13 grandchildren,and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, the late Frank Daywalt, was killed in an accident at the Smuggler mine in 1921.
