Receiving her education in a one room school house, Billie often talked about walking the train track - to and from school - where she took a biscuit for her lunch. Once old enough to work outside the family home, Billie began waitressing in Henryetta.
While at work, Billie met a handsome, young man, Kenneth Hamilton, who came in for a piece of pie, but didn't leave before asking Billie out on a date. Although she was flattered, Kenneth was two years younger than Billie which resulted in her rejecting that first offer. Persistence would pay off for Kenneth, however, as he continued asking Billie out until she finally gave in and said 'yes'. The two eventually married, in 1950, and they made their home in Henryetta where Kenneth had a more than 35-year career with Pittsburgh Plate Glass.
In retirement, Billie and Kenneth enjoyed taking road trips. A favorite spot to travel to was West Virginia, where they made several trips. When at home, Billie enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. In fact, she was known for baking, especially her pies, and even won a Blue Ribbon at the Okmulgee County Fair for her coconut cream pie.
This loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother was strong and steady. Her contributions to her family will not soon be forgotten.
Billie passed away Monday, December 18, 2018 at the age of 91. Those she leaves to cherish her memory include: children: daughter, Gail Pilgrim and husband, Mitch; sons: Kenneth Wayne Hamilton and Russell Lee Hamilton; grandchildren: Christine Davis and husband, J.T., Diana Witt, Matthew Hamilton and wife, Maryam, Trellis Long, Max Hamilton and wife Alyssa, Zackary Hamilton; along with three younger grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby McCullough; brother, Emmitt Duvall; and several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Hamilton; parents, and siblings.
