Mary Dedmon's parents came to Wright county, Missouri from Hall county, Georgia. They later moved to Arkansas, not far from Berryville and it was there she met Claiborn Foster Wood. Her family was neighbors with his family. When the Civil War was about to start they moved about 20 miles from Berryville, right on the Missouri-Arkansas border, at Blue Eye, Arkansas. Just about all of Claiborn's family favored the South. Claiborn enlisted in the Federal Army at Rolla, Missouri in November 1861. The family was told that he died of exposure and pneumonia. They were bringing him home to his folks home near Hartville, Missouri when he died enroute near Mansfield, Missouri so they buried him there. His wife and family never really knew for sure what killed him.
