Helen Dennis, 95, of Chanute, Kansas passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, Kansas, where she had resided for nine months.
Helen was born in Hiwassie, Arkansas on September 3, 1916, the daughter of Fred and Dora (Spiva) Biele.
She graduated from Chanute High School.
Helen was united in marriage to Verle Dennis in May 1936. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1970.
She was a Medical Ward Clerk at the Neosho Memorial Hospital for 23 years and a farm wife.
Helen is survived by a son, Richard Dennis and wife Jane of Chanute, KS; a son-in-law, Ronald Cheyney of Chanute, KS; three grandchildren, Rhonda LaRue, Jack Cheyney, and Daryl Dennis, all of Chanute, KS; three great-grandchildren, Garrett LaRue and Makayla LaRue, both of Chanute, KS, and Alixandra Dennis of Pittsburg, KS; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Verle; a daughter, Janice Cheyney; and a grandson, Todd Dennis.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute, KS.
Memorials in her name may be made to Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left with the funeral home.
