Obituary from the Concord Journal - (Feb/17/2009)

Roy B. Hodgman, 88, a Stow resident since 2003, and former
longtime Concord resident died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at his Stow home. He was the beloved husband of Marguerite T. (Gannon) Hodgman for 62 years.

He was born in Concord on Sept. 20, 1920, the son of the late Roy B. and Nellie Margaret (Duren) Hodgman. Mr. Hodgman attended Concord schools and was a 1938 graduate of Concord High School.

During World War II, Mr. Hodgman served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1945 in the Pacific and Mediterranean theatres.

An 83-year Concord resident, he was a former member of Concord Council 287, Knights of Columbus.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Donald Hodgman and his wife, Martha, of Wenham, Patricia A. Hodgman and her husband, Jonathan Gitlin, of Nashville, Tenn., Rod Hodgman and his wife, Nancy, of Boxborough, Rita Griffin and her husband, Dan, of Durham, N.C.; and Larry Hodgman and his wife, Donna Valentini; of Ashland; 14 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; and a brother, George Hodgman and his wife, Marjorie, of Northbridge.

He was also the father of the late Maureen Hodgman Schleicher and brother of the late Barbara Patten.

A funeral will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., Concord Center, followed by a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m., in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord. Burial with military honors will follow in the family burial plot in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.

Concord's town flag will be flown at half staff on Saturday in recognition of Mr. Hodgman's service to his country during World War II.
