He was the son of James Lennon and Jane McConville, who moved with their respective families to Liverpool from County Down, Ireland in the 1840's. Jack was one of their seven children.
He was first married to Margaret Cowley on 19 Aug 1888, and with her had two children - Mary Elizabeth and Michael. His wife died giving birth to Michael in 1892 and the baby also died fifteen days later.
He began living with Mary "Polly" Maguire shortly thereafter, and had a total of fifteen children with her, although eight did not survive to adulthood. One of his sons, Alfred Lennon, was the father of famous musician John Lennon of the Beatles.
Jack and Polly were officially married on 27 January 1915, after having lived for years as husband and wife. Polly had used Jack's surname since 1901. They had a daughter named Edith in 1915, and their last child Charles was born in 1918.
Jack died in Toxteth in 1921. He is buried in a public grave which is unmarked, along with five unknown adults and three children. The other occupants of the public grave are not related. Liverpool City Council have confirmed the place of burial as being at Allerton Cemetery.
