Mabel Clare was the daughter of William Cullen and Pearlina Fretwell (Moss) Upton. Due to her father's health problems, she was sent to work for Judge William and Estella Ward in Tishomingo, Chickasaw Lands, Indian Territory at the age of 14 years. While living with the Ward family she met and married Thomas Monroe Williams on Nov 30, 1902 in Tishomingo; they had 7 children: Eugene Monroe, Christine, Inez Almedia, Claudia Leota, Lomer Faye, William Pershing "WP" and Billie Margaret. They purchased a farm near Addington, Jefferson County, Oklahoma which they operated until Tom's, and later son Eugene, passing in the abt 1950. She then sold the farm and lived with daughter Billie and later daughter Inez.
