Surviving are his parents, Anthony A. and Victoria J. Perry Mendez, Galesburg: his grandmother, Patricia Tappeiner, his great grandmother, Ruth West, Maquon; and one sister, Anthea Mendez, Galesburg.
He was a fourth-grade student at Neilson School and was a member of the First Church of God in Galesburg. He was also a member of Cub Scout Pack 205, Den 3, and held the rank of Bobcat. He received a Certificate of Achievement for completing the Cub Scout 10-K Bike-A-Thon in April 1987.
Funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, the Rev. Dennis McQuown officiaiting. Burial will be in Gilson Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
