HUDSON, Fla. - Anthony Angelo Mendez, best father, best friend and best grandfather, 73, died Friday evening around 6:45 p.m. May 4, 2018, in Hudson.
He was born Jan. 11, 1945, in Galesburg, Illinois, to Ferdel Angelo and Patricia Cabrera Mendez. He married Victoria Jo Perry on Sept. 5, 1981, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children, Anthea Diaz of Houston, Jessica Mendez of Largo, and Mathew Mendez of Hudson; and four grandchildren who were his world. He was preceded in death by one son, Tony, at the age of 9 in 1988.
He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army and was a retired machinist.
Memorial service will be Friday morning, May 11, 2018, at Garden Worship Center in Belleview, Florida. A local service and burial will be in Galesburg at a later date, and family and friends will be updated.
