BUCKFIELD -- Henry C. Prince, 90, a former Maine newspaper man, died Wednesday at his home, Marblehead, Mass.
He was born in Buckfield Feb. 26, 1866, son of Charles H and Eunice Atwood Prince, and was educated in the schools here. He attended Hebron Academy, Coburn Classical Institute and Colby College. In 1893, he married Millie J. Keene of West Poland, who died in 1950.
In 1891, in company with E.T. Wyman, Prince bought the Waterville Mail, and in 1896, the firm started the Waterville Evening Mail, which was the first daily newspaper to be published in that city. Shortly after, he bought out from his partner and ran the newspaper until 1905, when he sold the business and purchased the Bulletin plant at Madison which he operated for a number of years.
He was appointed State Librarian in 1910, served until 1912, and was again appointed in January 1913, serving in that capacity until 1915. He was active in city and town government at Waterville and Madison, and was a member of the Maine Press Association.
Surviving are a son, Ellsworth; a daughter, Helen; and two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Sherman, Portland; and Mrs. Josephine Drummond, Waterville.
