Mobridge- Mrs John F. (Bertha) Wessel, 92, long time Mobridge resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1980 at the Mobridge Care Center Following complications after a stroke.

Funeral services will be 10 am Saturday, Jan 3, 1981, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mobridge with Rev. Mark Lindner officiating. Burial will be in the Mound City Cemetery.

She was born on Nov 17, 1888 in Yankton. To David Werner
1841–1920 and Philippina Nagel Werner 1844–1926.

As a six month old child she moved with her parents to a farm five miles southwest of Herreid where she attended school and grew to womanhood. On Dec 9, 1908 she married John F Wessel in Mound City. In 1911 the family moved into Mound City where Mr Wessel was employed in the courthouse as a county treasurer and auditor. In 1916 they retired and moved to Mobridge where she continued to live until her death.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.

Survivors include one son, Hilmer M Wessel, of Spearfish; one daughter Mrs. Jake Alpha Leidle of Mobridge; two sisters Mrs. Christine Sayler of the Wishek Retirement Home, Wishek and Mrs. Minnie Suess, of Seattle, Washington; four grandsons, one granddaughter, and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers and one sister
