Jake was born in New Boston, Texas, and was a graduate of New Boston High School. He had worked as a bag changer in the environmental department of Alcoa in Rockdale. Jake was a member of First Baptist Church in Milano, the Alcoa 25 Year Club and Alcoa Retirees Club. He enjoyed his cattle, gardening, fishing and hunting and at one time would break horses. On May 15, 1952, he and Margaret Ryan were married in Caldwell. To this union three children were born. Jake passed away in Rockdale, Texas, reaching the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his son; sisters, Willie Dell Curtis and Mary Helen Patton; and brother, William James Barfield.
