McWHORTER, William Lewis Sr., 94, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on June 3, 2011 at his residence.

He was born on August 9, 1916 in Viola, WV the son of the late Lewis C. and Nellie Schell McWhorter.

Mr. McWhorter was a retired Driller for McWhorter Drilling; former employee for the Volcan Rail, a Presbyterian by faith, and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Elizabeth Black McWhorter in 2001, one daughter, Beuna Lightle in 2003, two brothers, Kenneth and Leland and three sisters, Bertha McWhorter, Lila Jones, and Beula Skibo.

William is survived by one, son, William McWhorter Jr. and his wife Debbie of Wheeling, three daughters, Norma Jean Murphy & the late Harold (Merf) of Pleasant Valley, Mary Louise Norris and her husband Tom of Wheeling, and Bonnie Lee Kelley and her husband Rod, of Salem, WV. One sister Betty Gacquinda of Wheeling, WV, ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

The McWhorters would like to give special thanks to the following caregivers: Evalalah 'Egie' Wood, Helen 'Bugs' Wood, Marcus Wood and Donna Morris.

Friends will be received on Monday, June 6, 2011 from 2-4, 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV, where services will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David Logsdon (grandson) officiating.
