He married the former Debra Jean Allen on Aug. 28, 1971, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Escanaba and she preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 2005. Gary was employed at Advanced Electric in Escanaba, later at Holly Corporation in the Chemical Plant location before moving to Kaukauna working for Appleton Compressor Company and most recently as an inspector for Oshkosh Truck.
Gary loved the theater and was a member of the Players de Noc. He would travel home on weekends to build sets for the Escanaba High School drama department and control the lights during their productions. He also helped with the lights at Players de Noc productions.
Gary Mearl Tolman is survived by: mother, Phyllis Tolman of Escanaba; brother, Greg (Cathy) Tolman Sr. of Escanaba; sister, Gayle (Joe) Skorupski of Cornell; nephews, Greg (Brandi) Tolman Jr. of Green Bay, Wis., Christopher (Stephanie) Tolman of Gladstone, and Shane Tolman of Escanaba
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his father, Mearl, and sister, Bonnie.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Gary Mearl Tolman will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Escanaba with Rev. Scott White officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery
