M. Lawrence Baker, 89, of Springfield died Thursday at Walnut Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.


He was born Nov. 2, 1908, in Lincoln, Neb., the son of James and Emma Forbes Baker.


He married Margaret Carney in 1939; she preceded him in death in 1996.


Mr. Baker, a resident of Springfield since 1975, graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.


He had been employed as an engineer in Springfield; Buffalo, N.Y.; St. Louis; and Jefferson City, Mo.


He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was a member of both the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers and National Society of Engineers for more than 25 years.


Survivors: a brother, Leighton Baker of Shenandoah, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.


Funeral Mass: noon Monday, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Rev. Charles Mulcrone officiating.


Burial: Calvary Cemetery.
