Emily Pope was the daughter of William Johnson Pope (1816-1890) and Elizabeth Ann Orcut (1817-1853). She married John Large (1838-1920) in Cass, Michigan on 15 Nov 1857. In 1875 John and Emily with all their sons and daughter along with John's parents and his sister Cerepta Large Pope, moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Emily's brother Louis Marion Pope had married Cerepta Large, her husband's sister. All of these with their families are captured in the 1880 US Census residing in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.

About 1884 Emily and John, and Cerepta and Louis Pope moved to Kemp, Indian Territory, Oklahoma. In her later years Emily suffered from memory loss and died in 1915 and was laid to rest in the Kemp Cemetery in an unmarked grave. Five years later her husband John Large died and was laid to rest next to Emily. John's grave marker is very distinctive since he was a veteran of the civil war.
