Lewis then married Cordelia Allen on 18 August 1894 in Fannin County, Texas. Children born in this marriage were two infants that died very early and Lillie Mae Large (5 July 1899) born in Wade, Indian Territory Oklahoma. This marriage disolved by 1900.
Lewis then married Texas Shelton on 4 August 1901 in Polk County, Arkansas. Children born in Arkansas were : Edward William (1903), Arley Almeds (1906), Ledalia (1910) and Rainer (1912). Lewis eventually moved the family back to Oklahoma. His wife Texas died in 1916 in Boswell, Oklahoma.
One of the family records documents how Lewis as a cowboy was on his way from Texas to Oklahoma and arrived late one evening on the outskirts of the town Sherman, Texas. He decided to bed down there for the night. To his horror he witnessed that night the historic deadly tornado that struck downtown Sherman on 15 May 1896. The tornado had a damage path 400 yards wide and 28 miles long, killing 73 people and injuring 200. About 50 homes were destroyed, with 20 of them being completely obliterated.
During and after his life in Arkansas, Lewis was a Missionary Baptist Tent Preaching Evangelist. In January of 1930 Lewis began to have lapses of memory and would wander off and become lost. His son Edward at one point resorted to tethering Lewis to the front porch with a long rope to allow him to walk around but preventing him from getting lost. This did not work very well and in May of 1930 Lewis was entered into the Eastern State Hospital in Vinita, Craig County, Oklahoma. Lewis' mother Emily (Pope) Large also was afflicted in her older age with similar disorders. On 16th day of August, 1937, a day after his birthday, Lewis Large passed away and was laid to rest in the Eastern State Hospital Cemetery.
