Leon H. Crawford, 78, a retired railroad foreman, died Tuesday at his home.

Crawford was the husband of Hilda C. Adams Crawford, of 18 West Hanover St., Hanover. He was born in Newbedford, Massachusetts, a son of the late William and Elizabeth Wilson Crawford.

He was a foreman for the Western Maryland Railroad. Crawford was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two step sons and a step daughter. Joseph Kessler of Lancaster; Robert Kessler, of 304 Park Heights Blvd., Hanover; and Virginia Orfeo of Lancaster.

A sister, Mabel Shaeffer of 6 Clerview Terrace, Hanover and eight step grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Wetzel Funeral Home at 549 Carlisle St., Hanover. Msgr. Robert C. Gribbon, will officiate. Crawford will be buried in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery*. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT LEON IS BURIED AT MT. OLIVET CEMETERY RATHER THAN ST. JOSEPH'S CEMETERY AS STATED IN THE OBITUARY.
