Andrew Kurpil of Liberty, NY, a retired laborer for Local #17, Newburgh and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center, Liberty. He was 87.

The son of the late John and Mary Warcholiak Kurpil, he was born May 25, 1922 in Parksville, NY.

Andrew proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include three sons: Steve Kurpil and his wife, Susan, Stanley Kurpil, and Nick Kurpil, all of Liberty; two daughters, Loretta Pistilli and her husband, Nicholas of Willowemoc, NY and Nancy Kurpil and her companion, Dennis Bivins of Liberty; two brothers, Sam and his wife, Fran of Liberty and Peter and his wife, Ann of Parksville; three sisters: Eva Kurpil of Raleigh, NC, Josie DeVoe of Livingston Manor, and Katie Somesha of Fairfield, CT; five grandchildren: Justin, Jade, Lori, Todd and Katie; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth M. Kurpil; three brothers: Charlie, Nick and Steve; and three sisters: Rosie, Annie and Helen.

In a family statement it was said, "Dad loved to sing and when he danced to the polka, no one on the floor could catch him. Whats truly going to be missed is dads many stories, he would tell everyone about his life growing up."

The family would like to thank the staff of the Sullivan County Adult Care Center for their support and the care provided during Andrews illness and extend a special thanks to Paulette Cinquemani.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 18, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty. Funeral services will be Friday, March 19, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Monsignor Collins will officiate. Burial will military honors will be in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty.

Memorial contributions in Andrews name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 96648, Washington, DC 20009-6648.
