She was a graduate of Burlington High School, Class of '80. On July 3, 2010, she was married in Burlington to Gary E. Cunningham.
Shelley was a lifelong resident of Burlington whose tenacity helped forge an intense bond between all members of her extended family and everyone who knew her. She always made her presence known, be it with her spirited laughter, the jangle of her signature bangles, or the menagerie of animals that often followed her. Shelley was a woman who wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty at work, or in the garden, and besides her family her enduring passion was rescuing and caring for all creatures, great and small, that were in need.

Bara and his wife, Cathy, and Shawn Bara and his fiancee, Heather McGivney; stepdaughters, Kami Cunningham and her partner, Shane Rice, Darcy Allard and her husband, Patrick, and Michael Cunningham; nieces and nephews, Joshua, Justin, Addyson, their mother, Jessica Stanion, Kelsey and Logan; grandchildren, Cody, Amanda, Dylan, Casey, Brooke, Taylor, Jordan and Logan; her great-grandchild, Mikey; and her Ver- daughter, Jenny Lentz.
A celebration of Shelley's life will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Eagles Club, 1233 Shelburne Road, Suite B1, South Burlington, VT 05403.
