The woman who named Albion, Michigan. She was the wife of Paul Tenney Peabody whom she married in 1814. The couple had 11 children. The family came to "The Forks" of the Kalamazoo River in March, 1833 as the first settlers, and erected the first house. Mrs. Peabody was later given the honor of naming our community. At first she thought that "Peabodyville" would be a nice name, but then chose Albion, after Albion Township in Oswego County, New York, where Tenney Peabody's business partner, Jesse Crowell, was from. The Peabody family was instrumental in the early development of our community.
