Faith Allen, 91, enjoyed painting, gardening
Leeds - Faith (Gilmore) Allen, 91, died Monday, Sept. 7, at the Linda Manor Extended Care Facility.
She was born in Orange on May 7, 1918, the daughter of Wilfred C. and Sylvia (Hall) Gilmore. She graduated from Orange High School's Class of 1936 and from Bay Path Junior College's Class of 1937. She was married to Gordon F. Allen on Oct. 10, 1941. They were married for nearly 51 years before his passing July 12, 1992. Faith was a personal secretary to the personnel director at Pro Brush in Florence for many years. Throughout her life she had lived in the towns of Orange, Florence and Buckland and had been employed in various capacities in each town. Faith was a member of the Universalist Church in Orange, the Mary Lyon Church in Buckland, and was a member of the Eastern Star Athena #25, which is now part of the Greenfield Chapter.
She enjoyed and was known for her oil painting. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, swimming, and while ice skating as a young lady she met her future husband of 50 years.
Survivors include her son, Gordon F. Jr., and his wife, Charlene, of Williamsburg; her daughter, Mary Faith Allen, of Turners Falls; her sister, Annabelle Douglas, of Athol; five grandchildren, Rebecca Addison, Katherine Allen, David Allen, James Allen and Micah Purinton; and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her five brothers and sisters.
