Emory was killed in action near Anzio, Italy (US Army, WWII, PFC 3rd Reconnaissance Troops, 3rd infantry Division) The 3rd Infantry Division was part of the amphibious landing at Anzio, Italy code named Operation Shingle, on 22 January 1944. It remained there for just under four months in a toe-hold against numerous furious German counterattacks, and enduring trench warfare similar to that suffered on the Western Front during World War I. Emory was killed in action during the German counterattacks at Anzio.
