The Leader, Feb. 6, 1884, Belle City column, Belle City, Feb 4, 1884
Dr. Proudfit of this place died last Thursday morning. His death was caused by taking an overdose of chloral. He was a man of broad and high intellect. He had a large field of practice in this part of the country and was looked upon by everybody as being an honest and whole souled man. He was followed to the grave by a large concourse of people, and from the sorrowful looks depicted on the faces of those present it was evident that a man was being laid in the grave who had a dwelling place within the hearts of every person in that vast assembly.
