At age 20, Kate married Peter Jacobsen in Audubon Co., Iowa on Sep 27, 1893. Peter was from Shelby, in neighboring Shelby Co., Iowa and was nearly 23 at the time. Their first child, Eva, was born later that year, Esther followed in 1895, and George in 1900.
MINNESOTA WITH PETER
In 1902, Kate, Peter, and their family joined her parents and siblings in a mass move to Wadena, Minnesota where Kate's parents bought a farm. While living in Wadena, Kate gave birth to sons Earl and Gordon in 1905 and 1907, respectively.
In 1905, Kate and Peter bought property for $1,200, located at what is now the southwest corner of the intersection of Jefferson St. N. and Birch Ave. NW. They purchased the property from Kate's sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Anton Arbes.
During this time, Kate had a falling out with the Catholic Church over a book and went on to found a Congregational Church in Wadena.
At the time of the 1910 US Census in May, Kate, Peter, and their family were living in Wadena.

In late 1910 through early 1911, the family lived in Beach, ND, where Peter built a school.

In the spring of 1911, Peter filed for a Homestead near Plevna, Montana, and the family moved there. Kate's sister and brother-in-law, Lizzie and Joe Lasar, homesteaded the north half of the same section. At the time the family arrived at the homestead, Eva was 17, Esther was 16, George was 11, Earl was 6, and Gordon 4.
Kate and Peter's sixth and final child, Lorna, was born in Montana in 1914. A little less than two years later, on Dec 6, 1915, Peter died suddenly, probably from a burst appendix.
Kate finished proving the homestead claim, filing as Peter's widow. The witnesses to her Final Proof were neighbors Frank W. Schreiber and Frank Yonash. Her Certificate of Homestead was approved in the Miles City, MT Department of Interior BLM Land Office on Jun 9, 1916 and Land Patent No. 566956 was recorded Feb 18, 1917. At that time, the property improvements consisted of a house, barn, chicken house, wells, about a mile and a half of fence, and several acres of plowing. The improvements were valued at $700.

After Peter's death, Kate gathered up her children, except for Eva who was married and teaching school in Montana and returned to Wadena where she managed the Great Northern Hotel, a rooming and boarding house that primarily catered to railroad workers. Her mother, Barbara, died Feb 8, 1916, only two months after Kate lost Peter.
By the time of the 1920 Census, Kate was managing the Martes family farm. Walter Irish, then a hired man on the farm, married Kate on Apr 10, 1920.
Kate's father Claus died Jul 10, 1922. Walter Irish passed away only a few years after his marriage to Kate and Kate married for the third and final time, to Hugh G. Moore, on Oct 12, 1926 in Glenwood, Minnesota. Hugh also died, but the date is not known.
As of 1936, Kate was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Lorna and Paul Hunke in Wadena. Kate resided in the Wadena, Minnesota area for the remainder of her life, and passed away on Aug 4, 1955 at the age of 82. She is buried in the Wadena Cemetery.

Death came after a prolonged illness to Mrs. Kate Moore, 82, a patient at Shady Lane Rest Home, on Thursday morning, August 4. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church of which she had been a member for 53 years, on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. with Rev. Theop. Meckel officiating. Interment was in the Wadena cemetery.
Mrs. Moore was born Anna Katherine Martes, daughter of Barbara and Claus Martes on July 26, 1873 at Luxembourg, Ger. She came to America with her parents at the age of six to Shelby county, Iowa. She was educated in the grade schools of Shelby county and was married at Exira, Iowa, to Peter Jacobsen September, 1892. To this union six children were born, all of whom survive.
The family came to Wadena in 1902 where Mr. Jacobsen engaged in contracting and building. His work took him to Beach, N.D., in 1910 during the boom era and the family later followed to homestead in eastern Montana near Plevna where he died in 1916. After his death the family returned to Wadena to farm and in the early 20's the deceased operated the Great Northern Hotel here.
She remarried on October 12, 1926 to Hugh G. Moore at Glenwood, Minn. He preceded her in death in May 1953. Since that time she had made her home with her children until Shady Lane Rest Home opened in the spring of 1952 when she became one of the first patients and has since resided there.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge most of her adult life and was a past Noble Grand of the local order and a member of the Past Noble Grand Club.
