Julia was married to Joel Cane, a Dutch concert musician. They met when she was in Michigan where he was a member of a concert orchestra there. Julia and Joel were the parents of two sons, Bernard "Barney" Cane (1933-2011) and Andries "Andy" Cane (1935- ).

SAN ANTONIO GIRL EXHIBITS WITH U.S. OLYMPIC SWIMMERS
Miss Julia Dickinson, a San Antonio girl who, three summers ago, did not know how to swim, is now travelling with a squad of American Olympic team swimmers and divers touring the Middle West giving demonstrations. Miss Dickinson, a graduate of Main Avenue High School here last June, is studying at the Kellogg College of Physical Education. She recently appeared with the American Olympic swimmers and divers in a demonstration at the Illinois Athletic Club, Chicago, perhaps the most active organization in aquatics in the country. She is to appear in the same company at the Edgewater Beach hotel, Chicago , in a few days. Miss Dickinson will be remembered as having taught swimming here last summer at the San Antonio country Club. She mastered swimming and diving in three summers under the coaching of Miss Edith K. Jimison, director of physical education at the San Antonio Y.M.C.A.
