Aris Cox, parents unknown, was born 1795 in Franklin County, GA. About 1822 he married Mary Polly Smith, daughter of Edmond Smith and Mary Mooland Smith. They were the parents of 14 children, one of whom was Malissa Felecia Cox who married George W. Mayfield.

Aris Cox wrote his will on 1 March 1865:
Will of Aris Cox:
In the name of God, Amen.
I, Areas Cox, of the County of Clarke and State of Mississippi being
of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life, do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this
to be my last Will and Testament. That is to say, first, after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged, the residue of my estate to wit
(to my beloved wife during her life or widowhood after which the whole, both real and personal, to be equally divided between my lawful heirs, consisting of the house I now occupy containing two hundred acres situated in the county of Clarke and State of Mississippi, also one hundred and sixty acres in the county of Smith and State of Mississippi).
Likewise I make, constitute and appoint my friend James H. Ediminston
to be executor of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set , subscribed my name and affix my seal this first day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty five.

On 4 Nov 1867, the widow Mary Cox appeared in Court to claim her dowery.
So we conclude that Aris Cox died between
1 March 1865 and 4 Nov 1867
