Malissa Felecia Cox was one of 14 childen born to Aris Cox and Mary Smith Cox. Malissa married George W. Mayfield
24 October 1854 in Clarke County, MS. It was a second marriage for George. His first wife Polly Ann Smith had
died at childbirth in on 15 January 1852. George brought with him to the marriage 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters, ages 9, 7, 5 and 2.
Malissa would present George with 5 more children, 1 son and 4 daughters. Malissa died about 1897 and was buried on
the home place in Wautubbee, Clarke County, MS. Her gravesite has been lost during the ensuing years.
A great,great,great granddaughter has had a memorial bench
placed in Pine Hill Cemetery to honor those ancestors of the area whose grave sites have been lost.
