WINSLOW—Melvin Jay Wales, a resident of the Freeport and McConnell areas most of his life, died about 1 p.m. Wednesday in a Dixon hospital after a long illness. He was born March 18, 1893, in Vernon, Colo., the son of Adam J. and Harriet J. Diveley Wales. He was never married. Surviving are two brothers, Lewis A. and Edwin L., both of Freeport; and two sisters, Mrs. C. E. Bucher of Freeport and Mrs. C. M. Harold of Rochester, N. Y. His parents and a brother, Clarence, preceded him in death. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Cardascio Funeral Home with Rev. John Bruce of Freeport officiating. Burial will be in Rock Lily Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning Friday noon.
