FREEPORT – Lewis Arthur Wales, 75, a former McConnell resident, died at 4:40 p.m. yesterday in his home at 825 South Chippewa, Freeport. Mr. Wales was born Nov. 17, 1896, in McConnell, the son of Adam J. and Harriet Diveley Wales. He was a graduate of Eureka State Teachers College. On Dec. 28, 1911, he was married to Blanch Crain in Warren. He taught school and farmed in Stephenson county for more than 30 years, moving to Freeport where he lived and been a member of the Main Street EUB church for the past 19 years. While living in Stephenson County, he was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Winslow Masons, 564 AF and AM.
Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Orvil (Lucille) Nolan, Lena; Mrs . Alma McCaslin, Freeport, and Mrs. Dale (Uva) Meyers, East Moline, Ill.; a brother, Edwin, Freeport; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Bucher, Freeport, and Mrs. Alma Harold, Rochester, N.Y., and seven grandchildren. He was a preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers. Masonic services will be held tonight at 8 in the Cardascio funeral home, Winslow. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Main Street EUB church, Freeport, with Rev. E. A. Lieske officiating. Burial will be in Rock Lily cemetery, Winslow. Friends may call at the funeral home.
