A stroke of paralysis suffered three weeks ago proved fatal to Morton Brand, 73, who died at 7 o'clock, Wednesday evening, at his home in Lafayette. He had remained in a coma from the time he was stricken until he passed away.

Mr. Brand was born in Tippecanoe county, Indiana, a son of Washington and Susan (DeLong) Brand. His first wife was Lorinda Bryan, whom he married January 16, 1887. She was the only sister of James, Eldo, Elba, Joseph and Otis Bryan. She died in May, 1913.

In April, 1917, he and Amy Weaver Yost were united in marriage. For several years he lived in Chicago, and on a farm in Minnesota. He had been custodian at the public library in Lafayette for the last thirteen years.

Surviving are the widow; and by his first marriage, six daughters: Mrs. Ross Rohler of Mulberry, Mrs. Claude Johnson of Sodus, Mich., Mrs. Earl Bowers of Mulberry, Mrs. Robert Foresman of Lafayette route 5, Mrs. Glen Edwards of Chicago, and Mrs. Ray Cooper of Oak Park, Ill, and three sons: Row of Lafayette, Kenneth of Miami, Fla., and Max of Chicago; one son by his second marriage, Donavan of Lafayette; a step-son, Harold Yost, at home; one brother, Roy Brand, of Lafayette route 4, and a sister, Mrs. Fred Osterday of Mulberry.

The body was taken to the Baker funeral home in Dayton, where private funeral services are to be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon (Friday), Rev. Israel Hatton of Mulberry officiating. Burial will be in the Fair Haven Cemetery.
