On 29 Oct 1852 Hendrikus Koster, 21 y, farmworker, marries in Rijssen to Aaltjen Bonninghorst, 18 y, born in Rijssen too. On 29 Sep 1867 they still reside in Rijssen when a stillborn daughter is born.
Records show that in 1868 the Kosters family was in Michigan, and along with the Gerrit Nijkamp family and a few other families, moved with the famous Dr.Van Raalte to Amelia County Court House,Virginia. Hendrikus bought 20 acres, and his friend Gerrit Nijkamp bought the 20 acres next to him....
The Kosters must have left Virginia in late 1870 or early 1871, as the family appears in the Virginia Census in 1870, but was in Paterson, New Jersey on August 1,1871 when daughter Rowena was born. Records show that the place was
not completely paid for when they left, and was put in control of another party who seem to have sold it in 1876
In May of 1872, Hendrikus Kosters, with his wife and five children, and Gerrit Nijkamp(Nykamp) with his wife and 2 daughters, came at last to a place where they would spend the rest of their lives.... The Kosters-Nijkamp families both
homesteaded on Section 18 about 3 miles west of Sioux Center, Iowa.
Hendrikus died in Sioux Center,October 2,1909 from cancer of the stomach, he was 70 years old.
