The son of James Snow and his wife Allie Elizabeth Cave, both of Surry Co., North Carolina and Lone Jack, Jackson Co., MO. His parents were first cousins, both being grandchildren of Frost & Snow, Jr. of Surry Co., NC.

Henry's parents came west to Missouri in the mid or late 1830s and settled in Lone Jack, Jackson Co., MO.

He married in Sep 1855 to Amanda Spainhour, daughter of Elijah Spainhour and Rebecca Schaub.

In 1860, they were living with Amanda's sister Nancy Cave in Westport, MO:

William Cave died in a clash with Union soldiers while traveling with a band of men going to enlist in the Confederate army. His wife Nancy went and brought his body back for burial at Lone Jack.
