His parents were John Kelly and Nancy Williamson. Pinckney married Martha Cornelia Sexton on 9-23-1857, in Spartanburg District, SC. He served in the SC 18th Infantry (Co. "E") in the Civil War, and was killed in action 7-30-1864 at the siege of Petersburg, VA (Battle of the Crater). His unit was above and on the edge of the Crater, and he was either buried there or in an unmarked grave at the battlefield. He had one son, Nila Adrian Kelly.
