John Kelly and his wife Nancy Williamson were married in Spartanburg County, SC, and owned a farm there in Cross Anchor for over three decades. John and Nancy migrated westward in 1872 with a group including four of their children, all of whom soon had large families of their own. They settled first in Panola and De Soto Counties in MS, moving in 1879 to Sebastian Co., AR. Their final move was in 1886 to Montgomery county, Arkansas, where their sons James Henry, Thomas Mason and Charles Wesley Kelly homesteaded on adjacent lands outside the town of Oden.
John and Nancy spent their last years living on son James Henry Kelly's farm. They both died in 1894, and were buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. Their present marker is a stone which dates from 1920.
