Benedict was a plantation owner and active in Burke County affairs. Bristol Creek was named after him. His father was Gideon Bristol. When his first wife died, he married his first wife's niece, a younger lady named: Elizabeth "Betsy" McCall. Thirteen children were born to this 2nd marriage. Along with Colonel John Sudderth and others, he migrated to Cherokee County during the Indian removal of 1838. There, he and Colonel John established land holdings. Today, there are still Bristols and Sudderths in Cherokee County. Benedict is buried in a family cemetery in Chesterfield a few hundred yards off of Highway 18/64.
