Extracted from her obituary in the Morganton News Herald, 5 January 1943:

"Mrs. W.M. Kibler, last surviving member of a prominent Burke family, and one of the county's best known mothers, died at 4:30 a.m.Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. J.E. Lacy. . .

". . . .She had been ill for sometime, having recently had pneumonia but her condition became worse Saturday. Death resulted from heart trouble. Mrs. Kibler had been a semi-invalid for the past five years.

". . .she was a daughter of Benedict Bristol and Elizabeth McCall Bristol. She was reared on Bristol Creek and upon her marriage to William Michael Kibler on November 27, 1872, they made their home on Lower Creek, a short distance away, until they moved to Morganton over a half-century ago. Mr. Kibler died August 22, 1929.

"Mrs. Kibler was the oldest member of the First Methodist Church.

"Surviving are 3 sons and 2 daughters ---M.B.Kibler, Dr. W.H. Kibler, Ralph E. Kibler, Mrs. Lacy with whom she had made her home since her husband's death, and Mrs. M.W. Turner, all of Morganton; seventeen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive. A daughter, Miss Flora Kibler, died in 1927.

"Funeral services were conducted Monday morning from the residence of her son, Dr. R.E. Kibler, on North Green Street, in the charge of the Rev. Fletcher Nelson of the First Methodist Church. Interment was in the family plot at Forest HIll Cemetery.

"All local drug stores were closed yesterday during the funeral hour."
