Reverend Burris was born on Wednesday, June 16, 1937 in Buffalo Heart, Illinois the son of the late Jessie and Opal (Erwin) Burris. He married Dorothy Patterson on August 19, 1956 in Belle Rive, Illinois.
Reverend Burris was a member and former pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He worked as a farmer and pastor.
