Stephen "The Greek" Athas
ATHAS Stephen "The Greek" Athas passed away on Monday, November 14, 2011, at the age of 56.
He is survived by his mother Nancy T. Athas; siblings Alexander P. Athas (Karen) and Dr. Deborah Dardis; maternal grandmother Dora Titus; nephews Alexander E. Athas (Holly), Christian A. Athas, Peter A. Athas (Molly); niece Nancy D. Webb (Justin); great-nephews Branson and Drake Athas.
Stephen is preceded in death by his father Alexander "Greek" Athas; maternal grandfather Gilbert Titus; paternal grandparents Peter and Eugenia P. Athas.
Stephen graduated from De Lalle Salle High School where he played football and basketball. He attended LSU and Tulane University and earned letters in football. While at Tulane he was special teams Captain, where he led the "Hammerheads".
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1200 Robert E. Lee Boulevard on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.
Interment at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
Following the interment a Makaria (traditional Greek lunch) will be held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
