A graduate of Wadena, Minnesota, high school, he graduated, in 1915, from University of Minnesota with a DDS degree. He practiced dentistry in St. Paul for two years and in 1918 came to Sidney. He retired in the fall of 1962.
In Sidney he served two terms on the school board, was a director of Richland National Bank, a member of Peoples Congregational Church, Masonic Lodge, Richland Shrine and Al Bedoo Shrine in Billings, Sidney Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis, Toastmasters, and Elks Clubs in Sidney.
Survivors include his widow Anna M (Jorgenson) Peterson; three sons, Dr. Ivan Peterson Jr; two step-sons Gordon M Morrison and Leon L. Morrison; two daughters, Mrs Delores A. Haugen and Mrs. Alice M Hazen; a brother, Paul Peterson, four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Windsor and Mrs. Freda Stoakes, Mrs. F.H. Van Clive and Mrs. Delight Hanson and 11 grandchildren.
