Louise COOK

COOK Louise 2/3/1930-11/20/2011 Our most loving mother, Louise Cook, passed peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Orchard Villa, under the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, after suffering from Parkinson's disease for years. Louise was born in Rutledge, TN, to Estelle and Guy Hester February 3, 1930. She was most proud of her southern heritage, so much that she carried her accent for her entire life. She married Dewey Cook in 1949, after eloping to Raburn County, GA. They celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary before his passing in 1995. After starting their family in the Gatlinburg, TN area, they relocated to Toledo in 1956. Louise was the mother to 12 children, all of whom meant the world to her. Family was the most important part of her life, next to serving the Lord and others. She was the most generous, kind, compassionate mother there ever was. Louise always put others before her needs. Her Sunday morning breakfasts of biscuits and gravy will be remembered with all of the love she put into them. A homemaker most of her life, she began working for Lucas County Services after her last son was out of school, cleaning apartments for the disabled and handicapped at Northgate Apartments. She so enjoyed this, taking care of others. She was known to pick up groceries and medication for her clients before going over to clean. She worshipped at The Salvation Army for over 35 years, and was involved with their Women's League until her health failed. Louise also was an avid Cleveland Indians fan, listening to every game, and often scheduling appointments around them. We are so thankful for the warm memories Mama made for us over the years, the holidays, the birthdays, the school plays; she was always there for us with hugs, smiles and laughter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey; grandson, Shawn Cook; daughter-in-law, Debbie Cook, and son-in-law, Ron Hudson. Surviving are her daughters, Connie (Allen) Pollack of Bryson City, NC, Debbie (Dave) Keller of Runnemeade, DE, Sandy (Lonnie) Swanger of Toledo, and Amy (Galen) Culver of Petersburg, MI; sons, Douglas of Thomasville, GA, Randy (Jill) of Sylvania, OH, Michael of Huron, OH, Terry of Sevierville, TN, Tom of Toledo, Brian (Karen) of Toledo, Gary (Linda) of Aurora, CO, and Joel (Staci) of Oregon, OH. Also surviving are her sister, Betty Ducey of Augusta, GA, and brother, Don (Alice) Hester of N. Augusta, SC. Louise also leaves 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren that she is most proud of. Visitation will be held at Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Avenue Temperance, MI on Tuesday from 2 until 8 p.m. where the Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Final resting will follow at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania, OH. The family request that all memorials be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of the donor's choice . Heartfelt thanks go out to the staff of Orchard Villa for their care of our mother over the last 3 years. Your care and companionship is most grateful. Words cannot describe the care received from Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The support is immeasurable, truly all angels, each and every one. Also, a warm thank you to Dr. Lawrence Elmer and his staff at UTMC, Neurology, for his care and big hugs over the years. Mama so looked forward to her visits at your office. You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back, or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her, or you can be full of the love that you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she is gone, or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what she would want: Smile, Open your eyes, Love and Go on.
