Funeral services for Gertrude "Gertie" Turnquist, 91, of Arnegard, ND, will be Friday, September 12, 2003, at 10:00 AM at Wilmington Lutheran Church in Arnegard. Rev. Timothy Swenson will officiate and burial will be in Zoar Cemetery, Arnegard.

Gertrude Elizabeth Ulricka (Kummer) Turnquist was born September 22, 1911, at Croff, ND., the daughter of Lawrence and Minnie (Beilke) Kummer. She was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Keene, ND. She was educated at Veedrer Grade School and attended high school at Williams School. She furthered her education at Dickinson State College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school at Keogh, Veeder, Stevenson and Red Wing schools.

While teaching in the Red Wing area, she met her husband, Carl Turnquist. They were married in Sidney, MT and made their home farming and ranching in the Red Wing area. Gertrude was active in 4-H and was a clerk of Red Wing Township.

Gertrude died at McKenzie County Memorial Hospital on Monday, September 8, 2003. She loved flowers, gardening, crocheting and playing cards with grandchildren, other family members and friends.

She is survived by three sons; Dwayne and his wife, Cleone of Arnegard, Eugene and his wife, Sharian of Watford City, and Gerald and his wife, Faye of Arnegard; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; two sisters, Emma Veeder and Christina Selbold both of Watford City; two step children, Cecelia and Carl and his wife, Delores; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gertrude in death were her parents; her husband; five sisters, Tillie, Leta, Irene, Anna, and Bertha; five brothers, Rensel, Albert, Henry, Clarence and Lawrence; and two step children, Alma and Julia.

Friends may call at Fulkerson Funeral Home in Watford City, Thursday from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm and for one hour before service at the church on Friday.
