The 26th Regiment shipped out to Louisiana, where Henry and many other members of the regiment died as a result of malaria and similar diseases. Henry died April 2, 1863, at the age of 42 in Camp Parapet, Louisiana, almost two full months before the regiment engaged in combat. Henry's Civil War gravestone faces in the opposite direction of his first wife, Martha - seen in accompanying photo, to the left of Henry. Martha's gravestone is very difficult to read, so I'm not including a photo of it. In back of Henry's stone, facing in the same direction, is the monument of Arthur D. Ashley.
The occupation listed for Henry on the Old Lyme 1860 Census was that of Master Mariner.
