Leona Slater was born to Ethel Vance and Robert Slater in Melrose, Montana on March 22, 1916. She first married Clarence Smebakken who died in an accident while building the "Going to the Sun Highway" in Glacier National Park in 1934. Leona would then marry Ralph Kent in Butte around 1935 as they had a son in 1936. Leona died in Great Falls, Montana after an illness on April 26, 1963. Their four children were: Donald, David, Shirley, and Dale Kent.
