Corpus Christi Times, Corpus Christi, Texas, August 27, 1959, A1: First Local Polio Fatality of Year. The first death from polio in Corpus Christi this year was recorded today when Coyt Rhoshell Briscoe, 44, night supervisor for Suntide Refining Co., died in Memorial Hospital at 7:50 a.m. His illness was diagnosed as polio and he was admitted to the hospital Monday. Briscoe, who resided on Viola Road, was born in Rogers March 16, 1915. He came to Corpus Christi from Electra six years ago. He was a member of the Ebony Acres Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Jane, Ruth and Becky, and a son, Coyt Jr., all of Corpus Christi; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Box of Fort Worth, and a sister, Mrs. Robert E. Lee of San Antonio. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Cage-Mills Funeral Home.
