GREENSBORO – Mrs. Christine Kearns Alford, 80, of 401 Woodlake Drive, Greensboro died on November 13, 2011 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

Christine was born to the late Alexander and Elvira V. Kearns on Saturday, August 8, 1931. She attended school in Randolph County and Attended William Penn High School in High Point, NC. She later married Oscar William Alford, her childhood sweetheart. They lived in Trinity, NC until 1977, when they moved their family to reside in Greensboro, NC.

During her Christian matriculation as a member of First Baptist Church, she was devoted to and an active member who diligently served on the ministries of Senior Choir, Mass Choir, Progressive Women's Club, and the Missionary's Circle. Sister Alford also served as the Church Clerk.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Elvira and Alexander Kearns, step-father, Joseph Summers, loving sisters, Marzella K. Brannon, Julianne Kearns, and brother, Buddy Kearns.

She leaves to cherish loving and everlasting memories her devoted husband, Oscar William "Billy" Alford; faithful children, Priscilla Diane (Stanley) Turner, Beverly Elaine Lucas, Oscar Dwayne (Rhonda) Alford, and Roderick Alexander Alford; four beautiful grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Candace Victoria Lucas, Jessica Shardae Alford, Perry Jamal Lucas, and Roderick Alexander Alford II; sisters-in-law, Sadie A. Bennett, Georgia Alford, and Evelyn J. Alford; special sister, Barbara McKeithen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be 2 pm, Sunday, November 20, 2011 at First Baptist Church, 12504 Trinity Rd, Trinity, NC, with Rev. Robin F. Plummer, officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Community Cemetery. Family visitation will be at the church on Sunday, 1:30 to 2 p.m. and other times at the residence.
