An 82 year old woman died of shock and exposure early yesterday after she and her husband and their housekeeper were rescued from a fire which leveled their home on Center Ridge Road in N Ridgeville. The victim, Mrs Annabelle Wilford, and the housekeeper were carried from the
flaming house by a motorist who saw the fire and stopped to help Mr Fred R Wilford, 83, drop from a window to safety.
Breaking out in the basement shortly after midnight, the fire attracted the attention of Harry Hopp, who was driving past on his way home. Hopp ran to the house in time to see Wilford break a fist story window. After helping the aged man to the ground, Hopp entered the house and rescued Mrs Wilford and Miss Ella Sawyer. Dressed only in their nightclothes, they were taken to a neighbor's house while aid was summoned. Mrs Wilford died of shock, exposure and fumes in the ambulance en route to Lakewood Hospital. The house was destroyed. Wilford, a former employee of Mechanical Rubber Co in Cleveland, retired many years ago. They'd lived at the home for about 25 years. Additional survivors are 2 sons, Darus B of E 147th St, Shaker Heights and Harvey F of Bryn Mawr Rd, E Cleveland; a daughter, Mrs Olive M Barber, Webb Rd, Lakewood.

Wilford: Annabelle, residence Center Ridge rd., North Ridgeville, O.; wife of Fred R. Wilford; mother of Mrs. Olive Barber, Harvey F., and Darus B. Wilford; now at Clifford Pease Funeral Home, 2914 Dover rd., Dover Center, O., where services will be held Wednesday, March 27th, at 3 p. m.
