Funeral services for Ed Carter, 81 year old pioneer farmer, were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Bramer's funeral parlor in charge of the Rev E W F Holler. Mrs Ed Bartachek was at the organ. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery where Knights of Pythias conducted graveside rites. Pallbearers were Clyde Manatt, Gerald Manatt, Henry Van Renterghem, Arthur Kuntz, Orrie Neitzel & Henry Frus.
Mr Carter died last Thursday at his home southwest of Brooklyn following a long illness. He had lived in Poweshiek Co all of his life.
Hillary Edwin Carter, son of W D Carter & Alice Sackett Carter was born 30 Jan 1871 in Poweshiek Co. He was married to Christena Smith of Hartwick 1 Jan 1900 & 2 sons were born to the couple, Wm Delmar & Carl Edwin, both of Brooklyn.
At the age of 21 he joined the Knights of Pythias lodge of Brooklyn where he was a member for over 60 yrs.
In addition to his wife & sons he is survived by 5 grandchildren, Norma Taghon of Montezuma & Richard, Robert, Thelma & Donna Carter of Brooklyn; one great grand-daughter, Deborah Lynn Taghon; one sister, Mrs Isora Johnson of Zenda, KS; one brother, Charles Carter of Wichita, KS & a number of nieces & nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; 2 sisters, Mrs Dora Lineweaver & Mrs Nora Deerdorf & one brother, George Carter.
