Carl Edwin Carter, son of Hilary Edwin Carter and Christina Smith Carter, was born July 6, 1913, east of Brooklyn, Iowa, and died Friday, October 30, 1998, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell.

Carl was a life long resident of the Brooklyn area. He received his education in the Brooklyn School. Carl was self employed earth moving contractor retiring five years ago. He was married to Elsie Bolen and they were later divorced. On December 10, 1958, he married Marlene K. Wheeler in Kirksville, MO.

Carl enjoyed going to auctions and spending time with his grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Thelma Ryan; 1 brother, Delmar Carter; and two grandchildren, Carl Amos Kilmer and LuAnn Bacon.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene, two daughters, Donna Frank and her husband Glenn of Las Vegas, NV and Kathy Hash of Brooklyn; one son, Duane Hobbs and his wife, Vicki, of Victor, 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
